Plus Size Accessories – What goes with my outfit?

When completing your outfit with accessories, whether you are a plus size woman or not, it is sometimes a really difficult task to get it just right. I mean, do you wear lots of jewellery or less, or will a belt do the trick?

I think you have to review the look you want to achieve – natural, casual, dressy, sexy, chic are just some of the different ways in which a woman can change her appearance with the perfect accessory. As a larger lady, plus size accessories should be chosen that really work well with your outfit.

For business, large ear rings and lots of bling are a definite no no. Select smaller gold or silver jewellery without stones as these can be distracting. You want to look efficient and capable not sexy in a business meeting so choose your accessories carefully!

For everyday casual wear, use fun and what I call happy jewellery that makes you feel good wearing it. Choose colours that match your plus size clothing and costume jewellery is perfect for this. There are now quite an extensive range of organic, recycled and fair trade jewellery on the market, so you can be both fashionable and ethical with your plus size accessory purchase.

Evening wear plus size accessories would be gorgeous and sparkly, give in to your cravings for diamonds and pearls. That precious stone necklace, ear ring and bracelet set needs to come out of your closet and be displayed for all to see. It will perfect for your little black dress. You will feel confident and sexy and that is exactly the effect that you wanted!

Not all plus size ladies will suit large ear rings and jewels, so try them out and see how you look in the mirror first before going out. You will know instantly if the plus size accessories do not go with your outfit or your face. I’m always an advocate of “less is more” and find that using less jewellery in most occasions provides the best effect.

A belt is great for accentuating the waist and can certainly bring an outfit to life. I would also try out different styles, colours and sizes of belts and see which belt accessory looks great on you in a full length mirror. Leather belts are great with jeans or with long shirts; sparkly belts look great with cocktail plus size dresses or disco outfits. Find out which belt you like or if you can’t decide purchase a few – I’m sure you will find use for them all!
